EV battery fires are spooky. The Mercedes was just sitting there, not being run and not being charged, and not in hot sun, but the shade of a parking garage, so it's hard to imagine why the battery would heat up and catch on fire. I think Mercedes should see if they can legally cancel their 10 year contract to use these Chinese nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries. Better yet, just stop producing EVs and go back to what Mercedes used to be good at.
