with the energy emergency in place it would be much easier to ask Trump to permit pipeline through NY to bring natural gas to New England

This is a very bright line that they are crossing. MA’s population is roughly 7 million. Divided that into $10 billion and you get roughly a bill of $1,428,500 for every man, woman and child to pay. The interest on the bonds that they would have to sell would probably triple that. Even financed over 20 years(if the batteries last that long) all of the private family capital will be Hoover’d up by the state. Owing a car, forget it. Owning a house, never happen. MA will become so unaffordable so quickly that the exodus will be stunning.

A couple of other fun facts, like a Nissan Leaf, the batteries will last 7-10 years, so you have to amortize the battery over a very short life span, not 30 years like a real power plant, so the payments will be really high.

How y'all gonna charge all them batteries. then? It means the state grid will have to come up with an extra 20,000 MWH every day, even snowy days to charge batteries. Solar? It's MA not Southern California. Off shore wind? Ummm. Trump... Ya know?

Please note Massachusetts is ranked 47th, or, 4th worst State financially in the country per Generally Accepted Accounting Practices. Check out page 78! https://www.truthinaccounting.org/news/detail/financial-state-of-the-states-2024 This is a hope in one hand and crap in the other plan!

I hope Avangrid/Iberdrola has to purchase this insanity. They put offshore wind into our town (Barnstable MA). So let them pay for this. They have gotten tax subsidies, decommissioning fees waived. Let's eat their profit. I am sure the IRA will again give subsidies to the energy companies and they will pass it to the rate payer. Instant revenue stream for them!

The state passed a law requiring big utilities to buy batteries? Why should the state legislate the purchasing of a utility?

If it’s such a good deal then they would buy them on their own!

When legislation is passed to force the purchasing by a company we have passed into communism.

What the matter with these people in Massachusetts?

Stop the mental illness before it spreads!!

Excellent news. I’m afraid we’re going to have to see several Blue states totally collapse before this madness recedes. I know I sound unsympathetic but remember the citizens of Massachusetts voted for these people.
