When thinking about sea level rise, we should keep in mind that continental rebound continues from the last ice age. Northern Canada will not experience any sea level rise, as that part of the continent continues to rebound. But Florida may actually be sinking as the continent is more like a north/south teeter tawter during rebound. One part rises and the other part sinks. At least that is the current hypothesis.

An excellent article. The critical importance of site location has been known in atmospheric research circles for at least 50 years. I recall a project being conducted by some of my colleagues at Environment Canada in Toronto back in the early '70s, where they were trying to find some long term temperature info at sites where the data weren't compromised by nearby local effects such as runways, expressways, etc. A lot of sites were rejected as many were located at or near airports.

When “science “ lacks basic objectivity and honesty, you can expect resistance to correcting the misleading heat island data. The best disinfectant is sunlight… pun intended.😃

Urban heat islands are a big deal, and something we should devote more resources to mitigating. They don't explain ocean temperatures however!

They don't explain the shrinkage of glaciers either - in totally unpopulated areas, by the way.

I do see some real warming, but am less than persuaded that it's an "existential threat", or that it's man-caused, or that there's much we can do about it except adapt and live with it. If it gets too hot in Oregon, maybe I'll move to Canada. If I lived at the coast and was really worried about sea levels rising, I'd just move to higher ground. (Admittedly, that might be a problem for New York, LA, New Orleans, Venice, and Holland.)

I learned about heat islands in college over forty years ago and how they distorted weather and climate. And now we learn that the 'Woke' scientists have ignored them. Intellectual dishonesty can destroy a civilization if we do not reform our institutions of higher learning to add ethics to the training. Incidentally that is what the liberal arts degree formerly accomplished.

It would be interesting to see a chart of temperature and population growth around those stations over the years. Especially if it could be compared to stations that have seen no population growth around them.
