Supporting Dick Storm, gas is good and coal is excellent to store and it is more reliable than gas under icy conditions.
A serious problem has emerged in Texas where billions have been voted to boost gas generation but the initial expressions of interests have fallen away due to the time required to build generators, surprisingly five years apparently, and the risk that they will be stranded assets if the tide turns again and the Democrats come back to power.
In Australia the Labour party won the General Election last week on the back of a catastrophic Liberal (conservative) campaign that refused to mention the word COAL although its our only hope in the absence of nuclear power, which is illegal, and the gas supply is precarious due to Green lawfare the makes it also impossible to tap our generous reserves.
I am curious on the prospect of on-site storage of LNG for gas plants. I know there may have been a few experimental sites but I think with the amount of liquifying being done down here in Louisiana and Texas that the prospect will become more financially viable.
Having said that, it’s still a good idea to have coal in the mix too. I have previously posted…
Doing another Spain/Portugal ‘System Black’ for a day or so in mid-winter will help no end in bringing this EcoLoony madness to solve a non-problem to a head! Sheer madness of the nth degree!
Until more people die in great numbers no one will listen. Not sure that will even make them pay attention - there will always be some excuse, not the facts. The grift is just to great.
I do not understand why they do not understand how this works.
The lessons from Europe are not bright enough for the managers and staff at ERCOT to see. But maybe they’re just little more dense and the bright light needs to brighten to penetrate, we’re on a collision course for terrible dissatisfaction the way things are run today.
I commented on another article on LinkedIn and said, “Am I the only guy that thinks new coal plants are a good idea” the consensus seems to be….maybe a few more than me but just a handful of others. The EPA and Woke Utility management policies are Energy and Economic Euthanasia for our country, but until we have Blackouts, the politicians, Bureaucrats and general public do not seem interested in rational solutions. It is Sad to watch.
Dick Storm - we need more coal power plants and natural gas plants. We need to quit the contracting chicanery like ERCOT pulls. But that’s what you get when you have third rate politicians running utility commissions.

Diversify your power supply!

Beside the reliability issues which are obvious to any one who understands physics, It’s economic insanity!
