Not only snow. But this people conveniently forget that you can have very few hours of daylight in higher latitudes during the winter, and even in those hours the sun is pretty low in the horizon. So, even on clear days, without snow, with clean panels, you'd get a pittance out of the rated solar panel capacity, and only for a fraction of the day.

Exactly during the time of the year when energy needs skyrocket in higher latitudes.

How many panels would a home in Fairbanks need to charge the batteries for when the sun doesn't shine, when you get less than 4 hours of sun, and with a sun so low in the horizon, that you'd be lucky if you manage to squeeze an average of 40W/h out of a panel rated as a 400W/h one?

If you live in Alaska, and you see that the authorities are going full retard with solar on the grid, I would strongly suggest you buy a beefy generator, and enough fuel to survive the winter.

HE'S made HIS decision. That is a man not a group of people. Stop the insidious stupidity that is plural individuals. It's idiotic and makes everyone a liar and a little more stupid.
