I was a BT in the late 80’s in the USN. There was a reason we switched from sails to steam ( thank you Jimmy Buffet!) This was an incredibly well done piece. Thank you so much! Keep spreading the word in hopes to stop this lunacy!!!!!
"The Zimmer Coal Plant when operating at full capacity of 1350 MW’s is equivalent to about 1,800,000 Horsepower. " Consider that the following is the very first sentence of the Cincinnati Enquirer story from December 8, 1985: “The cries of protest that rang out for years against a nuclear-powered Zimmer Power Plant,” the reporter wrote, “have quieted since it was announced the plant would be converted to coal power.” https://environmentalprogress.org/big-news/2017/3/28/why-the-war-on-nuclear-threatens-us-all?rq=Zimmer
Great article. I love this stuff. You brought back memories. The first experiment I did as an engineering student 35 years ago was the "boiler experiment" - a mass and heat balance on an old working boiler.
Reading the linked history of energy article, I'm reminded how much we didn't cover.

Thank you Thomas Shepard for posting!
Thomas Shepstone. Thank you! Sorry about misspelling
Excellent! Wish this could be a required high school class subject.
Outstanding article! Get this on the cover of a major newspaper or magazine and get some people to wake up!
