There never was a driver shortage. The driver shortage idea was construed by the largest trucking companies because they wanted to pay their drivers less and pocket more. These mega trucking companies have their own brokerage houses and “have a thumb” on the smaller ones.

Todays highway safety or lack of safety because of a lot of foreign drivers who can’t read the highway signs is on the heads and shoulders of these companies. America needs to put only professional truck drivers on the roads controlling all these loads as the cross the country daily, and they need to be paid accordingly.

The extended range Ford Lightning range drops to about 80 miles when towing a full GVCW trailer. Do the math, it would destroy the freight industry, prices would go through the roof.
