Well thought out by someone who can see beyond the acronyms. Reliability can be a misleading terms if the criteria is not reliable.

Intermittent power was never considered in grid development and must be culled or segregated before the house of cards collapses.

Planning around those misleading sources weakens the backbone and leads us to stretches of weak transmission that is costly and distracting. No meaningful input will be achieved from the thousands of miles wasted on these limited resources but precious dollars will be wasted while ever increasing the cost to consumers. It’s time to wake up and face the reality of fools’ gold.

As a former insider I will defend NERC, it was never their job to force the construction or block construction. The job of NERC was to write operating rules of the road so those connected to the Bulk Electric System (BES) did not harm the reliability of the power system and did their part to help. They can only work within the bounds of the authority FERC grants them.

FERC is a department of the Department of Energy, and is a political entity. Although the FERC board is supposed to be independent, the Executive Branch has a lot of sway who gets appointed. Two FERC Commissioners were just seated at the end of the Biden term.
